From the dawn of civilization, humans have created art using the most intimate of canvases -- their own skin. This documentary traces the forms of physical-aesthetic manipulation that humans have practiced through the ages -- from prehistoric tattoos to post-modern piercings. The film examines body art from around the world as well as the cultural, tribal, religious and personal motivations that inform the physical and artistic rituals.
